Welcome to the second edition of The Banger Blast!
Well, jeez, that was a long period of *kaff kaff* a couple of months since the last Banger Blast. And as before, so it is again that I write with news of many-a-things have come to pass, the most notable being that I quit my full-time job on May 3rd, a little sad, a little frustrated, but with a smirk on my face.
So now, I have time to dedicate to The Whizbanger Show for you, my favorite listener! It’s a fine hobby as these things go, as I get to spend a lot of time listening to wonderful music, connecting with artists, and banging my head until the aging process finally has its way with me.
But enough of that! This issue is chock full of good stuff: a Q&A with Mike Juliano of Horror Pain Gore Death Productions, two video interviews with Alicia Cordisco (Justicar, Transgressive, ex-Judicator, ex-Project: Rowenwolfe) and Jessie May (author of Money Hacks For Metalheads and Old Millennials, and bassist, guitarist, vox for Turkey Vulture), some Bandcamp Codes, and other goodies!
Thank you so much for subscribing to The Banger Blast. Please help me continue what I’m doing by:
Sharing The Whizbanger Show through your social media pages
Sharing your favorite episode of the show
Leaving a review on my Facebook page
Tipping the Deejay
Buying something from my Bandcamp wishlist!
The newsletter will remain free for a long time, maybe forever. I’m just kinda like that.
The latest amazing news is that I created a Spotify playlist featuring bands featured on the show this year. It will continue to be updated. Enjoy!

10 Questions With Mike Juliano Of Horror Pain Gore Death
1. Tell us about this month’s HPGD releases.
We just released Human Infection's new album, Gravesight, killer Death Metal from Virginia. I first saw this band years ago at a metalfest here in Philly when I was vending, so it's very cool to work with them all these years later. Next up is the debut album from Denmark's Morbid Grave, The Slime Crawlers. This is raw, filthy, and disgusting Death Metal, which is just the way I like it. We also have two pre-orders going up this month, so it's a very busy time before Maryland Deathfest weekend.
2. What’s your five-sentence origin story for HPGD?
The origins of HPGD started from a DVD series of music videos actually. Back in 2005, I graduated from film school and decided to start editing horror music videos (death scenes from horror films cut to metal). I ended up trading with many record labels and built up quite a bit of buzz. Fast forward to 2008, one thing led to another, and I decided to release some friends' bands and my own band, Mental Funeral... this was the beginning of the label. I didn't think I would be here almost 16 years later, with 315+ releases in, but here we are.
3. What’s your favorite band outside of punk and metal?
I like a lot of different genres, actually, but I'm big into old gangsta rap, dance music, and 80s pop. It's hard to narrow it down to a favorite.
4. What’s the nerdiest thing about you?
I collect lots of physical media like VHS, DVD, Blu-ray, Vinyl, etc. And I'm big into deathmatch wrestling and collectibles.
5. What’s an unexpected lesson you’ve learned running a label?
Learning what not to do vs. what to do... I run HPGD as a passion project rather than a business trying to make money. I'm very lucky that people support the underground, and the whole goal of HPGD from the beginning was to share the music that I personally like with people.
6. What band did you learn about listening to The Whizbanger Show?
The very diverse selection you play! I'm familiar with this band, but (I’ll have to go with).
Very diverse selection you play! I'm familiar with this band a bit, but Marthe is one that stood out. I actually released Marziona's other band, Horror Vacui, on HPGD. She rules!
7. What’s the first thing you ask someone you just met?
Good question; it depends on the person, and usually, meeting people at concerts is some sort of common ground or shared opinion. If a band is really good or really bad haha, I'm friendly but also like to keep it real.
8. Any advice for bands trying to gain exposure in social media?
Social media is a tricky beast. My advice is not to rely on it but to use it as a tool. The last thing a band should be focused on is social media. Write good music, play shows, enjoy what you are doing, and then present yourself to the world.
9. Baseball or Basketball?
Deathmatch wrestling! Haha, I don't watch baseball or basketball.
10. Anything else you want to share? Lay it on us.
